Outpatient Detox for a solid recovery foundation

Outpatient Detox for a solid recovery foundation

An outpatient detox program can help a person overcome their addiction without the need to enter a live-in facility. This is an option for those who have a strong support system in place to help keep them on the road to recovery. The detoxification process should be handled by a professional who can help guide the recovery of the addict and to instruct the people who will be closest to the detoxing patient. Outpatient programs are generally only recommended if a person has a safe environment to spend their detoxification period in.

Doctors and specialists can prescribe certain medications; for instance a suboxone detox may work well for an addict. These medications can help alleviate the discomfort of the detox period, without having to be hospitalized. This short time frame can be trying for the addict and their loved ones. Once a person’s body is rid of the poison, they can start down the road to recovery. An outpatient program will provide the support needed for all of those involved in the detoxification portion of a person’s recovery.

These programs typically require a patient to visit a clinic where they will attend group therapy so they can get the things off of their chest that may drive them to use. These outpatient treatment programs usually require the individual to attend 3 times weekly with group sessions lasting around three hours. These types of programs are great for the person who works and/or school.

One drawback to outpatient detox treatment is you will be around others that are fresh out of rehab and have little experience with recovery. Another thing about this is they may be using drugs while attending these meetings and may try to get you to use with them. I would recommend that you do not hang out with these people useless they have a strong recovery foundation which would include a sponsor with significant amount of clean time.
